The links here were all correct when the page was updated on 1st February 2013. Several sites previously listed had died, others had changed their web-address, some now have different content.
All these links open in separate windows or tabs. The columns below replicate the original 2006 layout. Please advise any broken links or suggest additions to the list by e-mail. Thanks.

Other local web-sites

NOTE: This column is randomly listed

William Marshall Primary School. The school closed in Dec 2015. Children are now bused to:
Upwell Community Primary School

Upwell Health Centre Details of doctors, nurses & management staff, surgery & dispensary hours, and a duty rota. Other information includes how to book an appointment on-line, get repeat prescriptions, and the out-of-hours service.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), Welney.  Visitor information for this world famous 900 acre (363 hectare) reserve. News and events including floodlit swan feeding.

Welney Angling Club news & rules

Welney Parish Council The rather drab shambolic site started in mid 2006 did not improved after five years and was replaced in 2011 by the current  better-looking site provided by Norfolk CC. Still rather haphazardly listed details of recent meetings but not much else. (Not even a reciprocal link!). Their minutes are also available on this community site (and logically laid out, quicker to load and easier to read on-line and going back to 2004 here

Delph House (Marifa Lodge)  Details of  residential & day care-home services for the elderly, in the extended former vicarage in Wisbech Road Welney

The Ouse Washes An independent site started 2011. Has detailed pages and many photos describing the creation, management and operation of The Washes and its physical structures - sluices, locks, pumping stations etc, including those affecting Welney.

Norfolk Pubs (in general) &  Welney Pubs Brief historical records of virtually every Norfolk pub past & present

Norfolk Churches. Simon Knott's delightful site, descriptions & photos of over 470 churches.

Norfolk Mills  Historical data on over 1,000 mills (wind, water and steam), working and disused, including two corn mills in Welney.

Well Creek Trust. Maintains 8 miles of ancient navigable river that runs through Upwell & Outwell and Nordelph. The Well Creek once linked to our own Old Croft River.

Middle Level Commissioners official site, including details of all the internal drainage boards.

The Diocese of Ely. The site was upgraded in November 2005.  It has more than 1,000 pages including an interactive diary.

Croft Country Club - a friendly family club and caravan site for naturists.

Neighbouring Parish web-sites

The history of our parish and its current needs and aspirations are naturally much the same as those of our neighbours. It's interesting though to see how others deal with these aspects.

NOTE: The links in this column are alphabetical,

Barroway Drove. Site has expanded considerably since starting in early 2007, Lots of local news, events diary and discussion forum..

Black Horse Drove. A small community website for a small communit.

Christchurch. A very basic site, unavailable for many years but revived in March 2008. Parish Council minutes & contacts. However, there is also an on-line version of the excelent monthly village magazine, "The Heron" with news and details of groups, clubs, school, church, Parish Council minutes, contacts and local services.

Hilgay. See Ten Mile Bank below.

Littleport  My favourite site of the many covering this small town was independently run, had nice photos, Barber's Almanack (listing 100 years of events), Harley-Davidson motorbikes, genealogy, and lots of links but no longer available Jan 2013, so I suggest going to 'Littleport Life' an on-line version of the local magazine, with extensive coverage and links to modern life, or for historical details see the Littleport Society.

Manea The council run site is neat and functional, contains details of the Councillors and the minutes (but not annual accounts), but little else when I last looked. There is also community site started Oct 2010 called Manea Connect. News, events, groups, businesses  etc. and links to quarterly magazne  'Manea Matters'

Mepal an excelent and extensive Parish-Council site started Oct 2008. Mepal is a "Quality Parish Council" and it shows. Has links to an on-line version of the local parish newsletter, 'Mepal People' Between them, everything you need to know about the area..

Nordelph . Not currently (mid-2014) available, this was an excellent site started in late 2004 and updated monthly. Like this Welney Community site, it was independently managed yet had Council minutes and accounts as well as  local news and events, photo galleries, local history pages, a slightly tongue-in-cheek  "FAQ" section about life in the Fens (click 'why live here?'), recipes, even a tutorial on digital photography!

Ten Mile Bank. Another new (early 2007) community site. Contains PDF copies of local newsletter, and Hilgay Parish Council minutes.

Upwell The 2014 council-run site is the 4th version of the Upwell website with yet another domain name and no re-direction from the previous site resulting one again in broken links. The site displays the German flag in the browser address box and to my mind the site design is unattractive. However the content is clear and very informative. The history section now no longer mentions the tramway on which the "Thomas the Tank Engine" was based which earlier websites had. There is a link to the superb full-colour A4-sized Parish Council quarterly magazine which can be downloaded as a PDF document and is recommended reading.

Wimblington and Stonea An interesting and extensive Parish Council run site with lots of useful community information. Also pages on local history, clubs, major businesses, etc,
