I have lived in Welney all my life and I am proud of where I come from, even
though everyone calls me 'Fenney' or 'Pikey'!!. I don't mind the web site,
but it isn't updated enough and I don't mind pictures of Snow, but it's
nearly April and I think it may have melted by now!!.
Is that Blue Astra still in The Lamb and Flag car park? It's been there
since Christmas!!.
I live in Huddersfield now and I study at the University. It is a different
way of life and is more fun, but I still have a soft spot for Welney and I
look forward to coming home and seeing family and my dog!.

After visiting your web site I wondered if you could help me. I am currently researching the crew of an Raf Halifax bomber(LK789 MP-L from 76 squadron)that crashed near Welney on the April 25th 1944. My uncle Sergeant N.M Harrison was among the crew that were killed. I would appreciate any information you may have.
Yours sincerely

Hello,
My name is Hilary Hanbury. In March of 2001 I emailed you to ask for
information about how to set up an Oil syndicate. Here we are 18 months
later, and I thought you might like an update.
We now have 45 members in the village and I regularly put in an order for 16
- 17,000 litres four times a year. It works like clockwork and the village
notices the difference in the number of tankers wending their way through the
village now.
I would just like to thank you for giving me the inspiration to get this
started, and I hope that your syndicate is still going strong!
As a matter of interest, our last order, this week was at 14.65 a litre!
Excellent value.
Do keep in touch as it might be worth sharing information on new deals etc.
Very best wishes to you,
Hilary Hanbury

Hi
I have some information for Tim about Mary Elizabeth Knighton. She was my
Great-great grandmother and my father could tell you where in Welney churchyard
she was buried as he looked after her grave when he was a boy.
Frederick Knighton was from Ramsey, Hunts, his mother “Grandma Knighton of
Brimstone Hill” was known to have “the longest, sharpest tongue in
Christchurch”!
Tim, if you want a detailed description of where Mary is buried, leave another
message here and I’ll see what I can do.
Good Luck
Ruth

Frederick Knighton may have lived in/around Ramsey (Hunts). Have also
heard of a Grandma Knighton (pre 1900) of Brimstone Hill, known as having
the longest, sharpest tongue in Christchurch.
Good luck
/Ruth
PS Frederick and Mary were my great-great grandparents.

Hello Welney! from the Highlands of Scotland, where the Mitchell
family have
just moved. It was great to look up the site now we are 472 miles away....
and we had a laugh at the archive photos! We'll keep in touch. Thanks for
all Welney folk that befriended us in our five years there - we have many
fond memories, and we'll be back for visits.
Philippa Mitchell

Does anybody have any
information of where she is buried in Welney Churchyard and where records would
be held for the marriage of Frederick & Mary in the late 1890`s.
Keep up the Good work.

Hi
My name is Sharon Sweet and I am the West Norfolk co-ordinator for a family website called 'netmums.com' (www.netmums.com).I am currently compiling information for the new West Norfolk 'arm' of this site and I am hoping you will be able to provide me with some local information. I am particulary looking for information on:
Parent & Toddler Groups in your area (grp name, where and when they meet)
Family days out (which is split into 2 categories indoor & outdoor fun)
Once up and running the website will be able to offer your village advertising
for local events, such as fetes etc, so please add the above email address &
postal address below to any mailing list you have.
I look forward to hearing from you

Hello,We are a young(ish) family looking at relocating to the Welney area - the Littleport side. We are looking for some gen on the area specifically with regard to children as we have 2 - Girl - 4 and little lad - 8 months both of whom will need to go to school, primary and nursery respectively.Could anyone enlighten us as to where we would look for the schools bearing in mind that we shall both be working in the ELY Newmarket area? Does anyone have any comment on Littleport as this seems to be the nearset sizeable village/town. Also, as far as flooding is concerned is there any worry about the Littleport side of the suspension bridge or is it all confined to the land between the bridge and Welney? What are the pubs like around the area? Walks? How busy is the A1101 between Littleport and Wisbech?
We would welcome any feedback on any subject as we do not know the area at all.
We await some feedback avidly
Thanks
Claire Freer(Mrs) mfreer@fsmail.net

Comments Does anybody have any information on the Hibling/Hiblings/Hiblen/Hiblin family? I am especially interested in William Hibling who I believe was in Welney or the surrounding area between c.1800 and 1820. He married Hannah Butcher in 1820 in Littleport. Does anyone have any information regarding him? Please e-mail me if you have. Thankyou.
