General recreation

The land use is virtually all intensive arable farming and there are few public footpaths.  However there are public rights of way on both banks of the Old and New Bedford Rivers and the western (or northern) bank of the Delph River, all providing opportunities for walking and fishing. Fishing is strictly controlled and subject to a licence from the Environment Agency and membership of, or day ticket from, the controlling clubs.

In summer the river banks are often grazed by cattle and sheep and walkers and anglers must take care. In particular, dogs must be kept under full control, and dog walkers should also clear up and remove their dog's faeces.

The long distance walk, The Hereward Way, passes through the Parish entirely on roads, the B1100 and the A1101.

Boating is allowed on both Bedford Rivers (subject to licencing) but the high banks restrict views. Boating is not allowed on the Delph.

Occasionally, in severe winter conditions, skating may be possible on parts of the Ouse Washes. There are no licence requirements or charges but please contact the skating club for advice on safety and suitable locations.
