SPALDING DOUBLE      Report by Tony Smart     Played at the Memorial Ground, home of Spalding Town Cricket and Rugby Club. Conditions - warm, not too sunny and slight breeze.

Welney won the toss and asked Spalding to bat first in an extended 45 over friendly match. Occasional bolwers Stephen Kent and Stephen Revett (5 for 15) were the star performers in the field, taking the final 7 wickets in only 5 overs each - the wickets tumbled enabling Croft's run race not be too hectic, at a little over 3 per over. Home captain Gilbert (48) was the mainstay of Spalding's innings batting for 37 overs before being bowled by Revett. All wickets were bowled with the exception of a fine catch a slip by John Norman off John Loveday's bowling and a Neil Parkinson catch at the stumps for Stephen Kent. Steve Saberton bowled well with little success, along with Sean Goodger who bowled 4 maidens in his allotted 9 overs.

Statiscal note - Steve Revett took a wicket on the 3rd ball of his first 4 overs and in his fifth over, not quite, on the 4th ball? Finishing with the analysis of 5 overs 2 maidens 5 wickets for 15 runs, currently the best bowling figures for the season.

Welney bowlers – Steve Saberton 1 for 33, John Loveday 1 for 27, Sean Goodger 2 for 23, Percy Bulsara 0 for 28, Stephen Kent 2 for 13, Stephen Revett 5 for 15.

After the interval Croft's innings started very slowly, 10 off 6 overs, openers Revett & Hobbs added 48 for their partnership with Steve returning to form with a valuable 24 and Duncan batting 37 overs for his top score of 65 in 2 hours 5 mins - finally bowled by Bright with only 26 runs required for victory. Special mention to guest player Ben Edwards (26) who helped Hobbs add 63 for the third wicket. After their dismissals it was left to Parkinson and Sean Goodger (3 fours in one over) to knock off the few remaining runs with 6.3 overs to spare.

Duncan Hobbs 65 (7 x 4's), Stephen Revett 24 (3 x 4's), Ben Edwards 26 (2 x 4's), Sean Goodger 13 (3 x 4's), Neil Parkinson 8* (1 x 4).

A comfortable 5 wicket victory completing a double over Spalding's young 4th eleven, thanks to a good all round performance with bat and ball from Steve Revett and of course top scorer Duncan Hobbs.

Team - John Loveday (captain), Neil Parkinson, Stephen Kent, Duncan Hobbs, Percy Bulsara, Ashley Inwood, Sean Goodger, Steve Saberton, Stephen Revett, John Norman and Ben Edwards.
