Ground / Pavilion / Groundsman

John Loveday agreed to again supervise the preparation of the wicket and grass cutting, Duncan Hobbs and Peter Scott have offered to help out.

Teas

With a possible 12 home fixtures it was also decided again to use a rota system, hopefully only two teas per person would be necessary throughout the season? Diane Kent and Sharon Revett would again be approached, but there was still a need for other volunteers. Stephen Revett. expressed  concern over the cleanliness of the pavilion kitchen. Councillor Mark Brown would raise the subject at the next Parish Council meeting.

Equipment / Kit

After general discussion it was decided no major items were required this season, also having enough match balls, only items required - Ball counter / “clicker”, scorebook, stump marker, pavilion clock and umpire coats. Stephen Revett may be able to supply the umpire coats.

The club mower’s blades needed sharpening, “Bob” from Tipsend would be approached.

John Loveday was dealing with the repair of the main mower’s alternator problems.

It was decided again to hire a roller for a week-end to assist in the pre-season wicket preparation.

Duncan Hobbs, Peter Scott and John Loveday would help at various times throughout the week-end.

Peter Scott suggested the club purchase a mower for cutting the perimeter of the field, one was to be bought second hand for less than £100. Two metal dustbins were also needed for the lock up due to the mice problem.

Fixtures

Provisional fixtures for season 2008 were then presented to the meeting with only 2 spare Sundays – only new fixtures being Spalding Poachers & Pinchbeck.

Cricket Evening – 85th Anniversary of Welney v Friday Bridge.

A cricket evening has been arranged in the Lamb & Flag for Sunday March 30th to remember the Blows brothers’ feat of bowling Friday Bridge out for “0” in only 28 balls.

Memorabilia, match ball, news paper cuttings, medals and copy of score card are to be displayed in a new wall cabinet.

Jack Burkinshaw and Devon Malcolm have been invited.

Any other business.

The club secretary agreed to write to the Parish Council Clerk concerning the following matters:

1. Rodent problem in the pavilion, especially the kitchen?

2. Moles were making a re-appearance.

3. Repair of toilet widow and showers.

4. The cutting down of the tall conifers at the New Road end.

Mark Brown would also raise the issues at the next Parish Council meeting.

Neil Parkinson requested pre-season net sessions - it was decided to arrange these for the first three Sundays in April between 10.00 – 12.00.

Pre-season work was needed to clean / paint the sight screens, clear the rubbish between the “Lock-up” and pavilion and prepare the “Nets area” replacing the netting and matting, a general clear up of the corner.

Mark Brown asked if the club could supply articles for the local “Welney News” – cut off dates being April 1st, June 1st and August 1st. The secretary agreed to e-mail club news and events to the editor.
