Neighbouring Parish web-sites

The history of our parish and its current needs and aspirations are naturally much the same as those of our neighbours. It's interesting though to see how differently the websites deal with these aspects.

Nordelph has an excellent site started in late 2004 and updated monthly. Like this Welney site, it is independently managed yet has Council minutes and accounts as well as  local news and events, photo galleries, local history pages, a slightly tongue-in-cheek  "FAQ" section about life in the Fens (click 'why live here?'), recipes, even a tutorial on digital photography! Updated monthly. Recommended viewing!

Upwell The present site is the 3rd re-incarnation. In early 2006 a second, much improved, good looking, Council-run site replaced the original site. Professionally presented minutes, councillor details, and newsletter. Also chairman's reports, news & a message board. Couldn't find any accounts when I checked in March 06. An interesting history section includes lots of details of the tramway on which the "Thomas the Tank Engine" was based. In March 2007 that site became unavailable and was later replaced by the current one.

Christchurch. This site was unavailable for many years, but was revived in March 2008 to replace the "CAT" site (below). Contains Parish Council minutes, the local newsletter (The Heron), photos & maps.

Christchurch Action Team site. An interesting site started in Nov 2006 by the Action Team ("CAT") but will not be updated after March 2008 as the team have completed their task and disbanded. All content remains, including history & old Council minutes, so still worth a visit.

Littleport This link will take you to my favourite site of the many covering this small town. Independently run, nice photos, Barber's Almanack (listing 100 years of events), Harley-Davidson motorbikes, genealogy, and lots of links, do visit.

Manea is a Cambridgeshire Parish. The site is Council run, neat and functional, contains details of the Councillors and the minutes (but not annual accounts), but little else.

Wimblington and Stonea. An interesting Parish Council run site with lots of useful community information. Also pages on local history, clubs, major businesses, etc, well worth a visit.

Barroway Drove. New community site in early 2007, Looks promising.

Ten Mile Bank. Another new (early 2007) community site. Contains PDF copies of local newsletter, and Hilgay Parish Council minutes.

Hilgay. See Ten Mile Bank above.

Other sites relating to the area

The William Marshall Primary School. 2008. A new colourful official school site replaces the 2006 site. When last visited couldn't find the spooky page that I loved so much on the old site.

Welney Angling Club news & rules

Welney Parish Council A rather drab site started in mid 2006 and not improved after two years. Details of meetings but not much else. (Not even a reciprocal link!). As the minutes are available on this site (and more logically laid out here) there is little point to the Council site.

Well Creek Trust. Maintains 8 miles of ancient navigable river that runs through Upwell & Outwell and Nordelph. The Well Creek once linked to our own Old Croft River.

The Middle Level. Greg Chapman's excellent unofficial site detailing the formation, reclamation and drainage of the fens. Also navigation notes & maps.

The Middle Level Commissioners official site, including details of all the internal drainage boards.

Norfolk Pubs (in general) &  Welney Pubs
