Welney Youth Club and After School Club

The Youth Club for 12 to 17 year olds was started in June 2005 with 5 Young People and 1 enthusiastic Leader, Julie Perkins-Jones, and soon had over 20 young people attending, meeting on Thursday evenings in the Pavilion at the Playing Field. A wide range of activities were offered at a cost of just 50p per evening.

The club received over £3,000 from Leader+ for equipment and training.

 

For younger children aged 5 to 11 a new After Schools Club was started in July 2006. meeting every Tuesday at 4 pm, at the back of the school, with indoor and outdoor games. The first meeting had 17 children attending. Children had to be accompanied by a parent (who received free refreshment). The charge of 50p included a picnic tea. Children under 5 were also welcome but had to stay with a parent at all times.

 

Sadly, Julie Perkins-Jones fell ill in late 2007, and by mid 2008 was unable to continue as Youth Leader as her condition deteriorated confining her to a wheelchair, and the clubs activities ceased.

Tragically, in January 2009, Julie Perkins-Jones died.
